Major Achievements

Discipline among students has recorded a measure of improvement within the period under review. Students have maintained a high level of discipline and obeyed the rules and regulations governing student life on campus. Incidents of violence, intimidation of students, bullying and other vices have been on steady decline in their occurrence. This is largely due to some new strategies in intelligence gathering adopted by the Department and
the fact that reported disciplinary cases were handled judiciously and expeditiously.

Student Unionism

The Student Union under the guidance and direction of the Student Affairs Department has continued to improve on the general governance of the students. In the period under review, the Department has successfully conducted elections for succession of leadership of the Union in accordance with SUG Constitution and University regulations. A transparent system by Students’ Union election process has been entrenched over the years which should
continue to be a land mark in the University if sustained by successive administrations.

Similarly, the Students have been encouraged to sustain a system where the Union can be run without external influence. The quality of leadership and accountability exhibited by the Union officials has improved tremendously. Presently, the University has a student unionism that has become more responsible and committed to the culture of justice and fair play. Worthy of mention is that recently, the Abia State Government gave an award of best behaved male student to the immediate past S.U.G President of the University.
